| About | Athanasiadou Ifigeneia has graduated from the School of English Language and Literature of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has completed the Master of Arts in Syntax (Dissertation with distinction) in the Department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex, UK. She has obtained her PhD in first-language acquisition from the School of English Language and Literature of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her research interests lie in the fields of Cognitive Linguistics and Developmental Psycholinguistics and more specifically in usage-based language, cognitive grammar, conceptual metonymy, plural-mass nouns, linguistic relativity, thinking-for-speaking, and universal ontology. In her thesis, she investigated the dynamic relationship between language acquisition and conceptual development by examining the consequential effects of verbal grammatical-number marking on count and mass nouns on nonverbal classification preferences for objects and substances by monolingual native child and adult speakers of English and Greek. She has published in international journals and conference proceedings and has worked as a research assistant to projects funded from the UK and Sweden. She has also been granted an Erasmus-placement internship in Newcastle University, UK, under the supervision of Professor Panos Athanasopoulos. During the placement, she provided research assistance to her mentor, attended his classes and the research-methods seminars for doctoral students, and was also a member of the language-acquisition research group. She has taught in the School of English Language and Literature of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in private colleges. She has also taught vocational English (ESP) in state schools/private colleges and has worked as English-language teacher and school coordinator in foreign-language schools. She practises statistical analysis (SPSS) and corpus analysis BNC (British National Corpus), HNC (Hellenic National Corpus). She is also certified in French (Delf A1-A4) and Italian (State Certificate of Language Proficiency) at B2 level. |
